Meet Our Teachers
Loura Lawrence has over 20 years of experience working with kids and teens in church camps, daycare, babysitting, and most recently as a private tutor for the past 5 years. She holds an Associate of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in English, and has been ordained in pastoral counseling from Open Ministry in CA. She also has 2.5 years of homeschooling experience with 2 of her 3 children through Kindergarten, First, and Second grades, respectively.
Loura has worked as a successful tutor with students from as young as five years-old, up through high school seniors and adult college students. She has enjoyed working with gifted, dyslexic, ADD/ADHD, and OCD students, as well as students without learning disabilities.
Loura is a published author, professional photographer, graphic and jewelry designer, and actress. She has always been passionate about education. See more about Loura here.
Dr. Virginia Abernathy has 8 years of experience teaching introductory biology courses at the university level, 7 years of experience working with kids 2nd-6th grades at church camps, and has taught music lessons in flute, saxophone, and beginning piano for elementary and middle school-aged children.
She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with an emphasis in field biology, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition with a major in flute and a minor in saxophone from Ohio Northern University. She also holds a Masters degree in Biology from Western Illinois University, and a PhD in Biology from Australian National University.
Dr. Abernathy loves birds, writing fiction, watching movies, and composing instrumental music. She uses creativity and positive encouragement to help her students understand difficult concepts, and easily relates to children with introverted personalities.
